For Students
Student Testimonials 2022 Internship Providers
One primary goal of the Professional Writing and Rhetoric (PWR) internship program is to help you produce clear, readable communication. The first step toward accomplishing this goal is to break some bad writing habits. In the PWR program we hope to encourage you to form new habits and to develop as a professional writer.
Some goals of the PWR program:
- Exposure to common workplace writing genres
- Opportunities to compose technical documents.
- Oral communication for which you will design effective slides and practice communicating technical information.
Since this is a program of study as well as an internship opportunity, you will be presented with the theory, principles, and processes of effective written, oral, visual, and electronic communication, but they are mixed with a large amount of practical or case-based learning opportunities. This means that you will respond to a number of different real-world clients and professional situations. These opportunities will help you apply your writing and communication skills in an out-of-classroom setting.
You will also develop a professional writing process that improves organization, flow, and style. In short, you will develop the ability to make valuable information more readable and more accessible for the reader. Enjoy the ride!
